A multitude of pale green, strangely shaped rocks line the coast for 2 km. This natural art, carved by the rough winter seas, transforms into a paradise-like shore—befitting the name "Hotokegaura" (Buddha's Shore)—when viewed during the calm summer sea. The contrast between the highly transparent emerald green sea and the ivory-colored clusters of strange rocks is beautiful, resembling an entrance to paradise. This is no coincidence: it is said that Hotokegaura is the place where the deceased stop when they journey to the next world or return to this one. Each unique rock formation is named based on the image of Jōdo (Pure Land/Paradise). You can drive to Hotokegaura, but since the round-trip walk from the parking lot is about 40 minutes along a steep trail, taking a boat is recommended for those who are not confident in their physical strength. Sightseeing boats operate from Sai Port from April to October.
